Proud GG of Nora Pomish. Dear sister of Dr. Donald (the late Rosalie) Schiff and Renee (Larry Zisman) Schiff. Also survived by many lifelong friends, her business associates and her loving family at The Mars Agency. Marilyn Barnett founded The Mars Agency with the vision of building a world-class agency deeply rooted in family-oriented ideals. From no computers, fax machines, voicemails and a couple of shared phones, the company grew to become the world's largest independent shopper marketing agency, totaling a 500+ agency network servicing clients in 11 U.S. offices along with branch offices in Toronto, Canada and a European headquarters in London, England. "My mom had the guts to lay down the roots that made it all possible" said Global CEO Ken Barnett. "She wanted to create an opportunity for smart and dedicated people to provide for their families, a place where people could learn and be truly passionate about what they do and a name that would be recognized worldwide as a leader in the advertising and marketing space. She did that and so much more. At this time our family feels much larger and we're so grateful for the love coming not only from our employee and client family, but the entire metro Detroit community." Just five months ago, Ms. Barnett was present for the agency's Founder's Day celebration, honoring her 44 years of industry leadership and innovation. "When Ken first told me of this day," she told the Company on October 30th, "I immediately had mixed feelings about it. Yes, it's nice to be recognized, I admit it. But, there's a saying I've always loved that goes, "Don't look back, you're not heading that way." This agency is not heading that way. The beauty of Mars is that it's never been afraid to evolve, to morph with the times, to hire the best people and to find fresh ideas. That was true when this agency was founded 44 years ago, and it's true today. So thank you for the recognition, but the best tribute to me is for you to be true to the Mars values that will shape us for the next 44 years: commitment, innovation, stellar client service, constant learning and kindness. That's how you best honor me on this 'Founder's Day.'" Ms. Barnett was an inductee of the Adcraft Hall of Fame, had been named Advertising Woman of the Year, recipient of the Top Agency Management Award, Women in Communication's Headliner Award, Entrepreneur of the Year, Outstanding Retail Marketing Executive, Outstanding Retail Woman of the Year, Michigan's Top 25 Women Business Owner, Oakland County Executive of the Year, Governor's Recognition and Executive Women of America It is suggested that those who wish to further honor the memory of Marilyn Barnett may do so by making a contribution to: Temple IsraelClick to Visit Charity Website College for Creative StudiesClick to Visit Charity Website |
