FUNERAL DETAILS
Arline Jayne (Friedman) FergusonArline Jayne (Friedman) Ferguson, 77, of Jamesville, New York, died on 21 July 2024. Arline passed from this life on July 21, 2024, at the home of her son, in Milford, Michigan, surrounded by her loving partner, children and grandchildren. Arline bravely battled pancreatic cancer for 3 years, enduring much, yet retaining eternal hope and cheerful optimism until the end. She encouraged those around her with laughter and humor, even in the hard moments, and was such an example of perseverance and strength. Arline had expressed her reason for fighting was to live to see her grandchildren grow up. She loved deeply and well, and her fortitude will indeed remain a part of each grandchild for a lifetime. Arline was born in Dayton, OH to Jack J. Friedman and Rose (Axelrod) Friedman. First growing up in New York City, Arline’s family later relocated to Miami, FL. Graduating from North Miami Sr. High School in 1964, favorite school memories included time in the drum and bugle corps, and winning trophies while competing on the bowling team. Arline loved to learn, and although difficult life circumstances would challenge her resolve to attain a college degree, Arline viewed the world a little differently: seemingly impossible obstacles only served to spur her onward. Beginning her college studies at Syracuse University in 1964, she continued on to complete her Bachelor of Science degree, in Chemistry, at Eastern Michigan University in 1971, later finalizing her formal education with a teaching certificate in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin. As an adult, Arline lived in the Midwest for 25 years, then Amesbury, MA, where she resided for 32 years. She enjoyed a surprisingly diverse career, with jobs ranging from dental research in Anthropology, to tobacco studies with coal miners, and teaching high school chemistry. Later, to better accommodate raising her two beloved children, she sold educational Discovery Toys and operated a Kumon Math and Reading educational center for over 15 years. Arline loved people, learning new things, and exhibited profound enthusiasm for life. One of her great loves, International Folk Dancing, combined all of these and was a source of immense joy to Arline for many years. Learning music and dances of all types, Arline participated with many groups and made innumerable friends around the country and world. Another passion of Arline’s was her enjoyment of researching her family genealogy, which led to her discovering many family connections (some becoming quite dear to her) which had previously been lost or unknown. Arline was also devoted to various book clubs (considering books to be cherished friends), treasured travel to other countries (especially ones relating to her family history), meeting and learning about new people and cultures, and enjoying ice cream and multicultural foods. Most of all, Arline will be remembered by those who loved her as a woman who lived well, loved well, and put others first. She was a devoted friend to all, and especially to any in need, often going to unexpected lengths to help those who did not have anyone else. She did things that were not her job, because they needed to be done, and persevered no matter the odds. She sacrificed for spouses, children, and those blessed to be called her friends. Obstacles were not obstacles, only bumps to be smoothed. We loved her deeply and hope to carry on a legacy which would make her proud. Arline is predeceased by her parents Jack and Rose. Arline is survived by her partner of 34 years, Charles/Chuck Jones of Jamesville, NY; two children and five grandchildren: Benjamin (Jeanette) Ferguson (Ayla, Josiah and Meisha) of Milford, MI and Kerith (Scott) Roux (Amelia and Kendall) of Baldwinsville, NY; and sister Harriet Raskin of Dallas, TX. Memorial details will be announced at a later date.
