Dr. Herbert "Doc" Goodwin
Dr. Herbert "Doc" Goodwin, 94, of West Bloomfield, Michigan and Boca Raton, Florida, died on 17 December 2023. The Funeral was held at IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL on Thursday, 21 December 2023 at 11:00 AM . The family of Dr. Herbert "Doc" Goodwin will be gathering through the evening of Thursday, December 21 at 5090 Oakbrooke Drive, West Bloomfield MI 48323. Family and friends will be gathering immediately following the interment service on Thursday with religious services at 7:00 p.m. Herbert Goodwin, “Doc,” was one of a kind. He was a union electrician after serving in the army during the Korean war, but decided to change paths at age 27, went to MSU for his undergrad, then fell in love with Barbara (Rosenthal) and together they went to Des Moines for osteopathic school. He worked as an anesthesiologist for more than twenty years and then took on a second job – his dream job – farming. In the interim, he and Barbara raised four children and then became active grandparents to four grandchildren. Losing Barbara to ALS was a tragedy that happened way too early, but he didn’t allow the one thing he couldn’t fix to stop him from living. He filled his later years spending time with friends and family, while boating both locally and internationally, enjoying the summers in Michigan and the winters in Boca Raton. If his golden years had lost any of their luster due to Barbara’s premature passing, the sparkle in his eyes was absolutely there when he welcomed the birth of his first great-grandchild earlier this year. He will be loved and missed by his immediate and extended family, friends, colleagues, and caregivers. Doc was the devoted and loving husband of the late Barbara Goodwin. Cherished father of Denise Goodwin, Stacie (Jeff) Rein, Alan Goodwin, and Andrea Goodwin (Nancy Sparta). Special grandfather of Jordan Goodwin, Alena (Grayson) Emanoil, Allison Rein, and Matthew Rein. Adoring great-grandfather of Madeline Emanoil. Dear son of the late Harry and the late Anne Goodwin and brother of the late Albert (the late Dolores) Goodwin, the late Shirley (the late Irving) Roth, and Murray (the late Leatrice) Goodwin. Brother-in-law of the late Jerry (the late Beverly) Rosenthal, Joyce (the late William) Nadler, and Burton (Ann) Rosenthal. He will also be missed by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as some very special caregivers that will always be part of his family, Eduardo, S, and Mama S., Dora, Patricia, and Dino. And most notably, Roy.
