Lionel Margolick

Lionel Margolick, 81, of fomerly of Detroit, died on 01 December 2023.

MARGOLICK, Lionel. Son of Samuel and Evelyn Kravitz Margolick, brother of Rhoda Wise, husband of Naomi (Dr. Alex and Laura Sadovsky, Silas and Sawyer), father of Jeffrey and Andrew, father-in-law of Caroline and Katie, grandfather of Jake, Lauren, A.J., Zachary and Eli, beloved uncle, nephew, and cousin, best of friends of Nuchum Siegel, Jeff Talpis, Jay Richman and Steve Miller, raconteur and connoisseur (especially of Chinese food and smoked meat) and lover of the Montreal Canadiens (especially Rocket Richard and Guy Lafleur), Sandy Koufax, and University of Michigan football.

Lionel was born on November 10, 1942 in Montreal and went to McGill both for undergraduate and law school, paying for them in part by driving a taxi. Setting an important family tradition, he forsook the practice of law for business, getting his MBA at Wharton. Upon graduating, he joined the finance staff of the Ford Motor Company, and later became president of Ford Credit International, a post he held for four years, mostly in Venezuela. He soon established the Margolick Financial Group, a private equity investment bank based in Farmington Hills, MI with interest in malls and hotels across the U.S. Among his projects was the redevelopment of Times Square in New York, and partial ownership (for several years) of the Derby County Football Club, during which he resolutely managed not to learn the rules of the game.

He was active in many charities, including Kadima Mental Health Services, the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, and Zichron Kedoshim of Montreal, for which he established an annual education series in memory of his parents, with visiting speakers including Ari Fleischer, Senator Joseph Lieberman, and Governor Mike Huckabee. Special thanks to Peter Catedral, and all of the wonderful caregivers at Chateau Westmount . The family welcomes donations in Lionel's name to your favorite charities, and that you lift an egg roll (or peanut butter dumpling) in his memory. Or, better yet, a smoked meat sandwich, but not too lean -- because, as Lionel liked to say, "the fat gives it the taste."

Funeral services were held in Lionel's home town of Montreal.
