Religious services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Alfie was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was proud of his upbringing. He was a graduate of the elite Walnut Hills High School, Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Cincinnati, and Alpha Omega Alpha at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Upon graduation he served as a captain in the US Army before completing his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. A respected and gifted physician, he practiced medicine for more than 35 years from his office in Birmingham. His patients included captains of industry, celebrities, and many of his friends. Everyone was treated like family. Alfie was known for house calls and personal attention well after that fell out of favor. Alfie was also a staunch supporter of Detroit sports. He was an avid fan of the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons, Wolverines, and Spartans. He cheered them on with his children and then grandkids during championship seasons and in tough times. He and his family loved the Olympics and together they saw many “classic” events including the Miracle on Ice and the first perfect 10 in gymnastics. He and Sharron were active supporters of the arts and loved attending the opera, concerts, and broadway shows. They were also world travelers before that was common. They explored Russia, China, Europe and other places near and far. At home, Alfie was staunchly competitive with family at Scrabble, Euchre, and gin rummy. He achieved Ruby Life Master status at bridge, winning a National Pairs Tournament with Sharron. He is survived by his beloved wife Sharron of 63 years; he was a cherished father of Greg, Marla, Jay and daughter-in-law Heidi; a proud grandfather of Hannah and her husband Matt, Livia, Joseph, Tristan, Tatum, and Chloe; and an adoring great-grandfather of Veronica and Harrison. He taught us how to love family and friends, work hard, live life well and be generous to others, and always with integrity and a sense of humor.
