Born during a total solar eclipse, breach, and at home, Marilyn was special from the start. She was raised in Detroit surrounded by a large and loving family of aunts, uncles and grandparents. Unfortunately, her father abandoned the family very shortly after the birth of her brother, Sheldon in 1931. Growing up, Marilyn was encouraged to learn to play the piano which paid off tenfold as she was able to pay for her college education by giving piano lessons.

After graduating from Central High School in 1942, she became the first member of the family to attend college. While in social work grad school at Wayne State University she met Saul and they were married in 1948 just days after she received her MSW degree. They settled in Ann Arbor where Marilyn worked as a clinical social worker, living there for 3 years before returning to Detroit.

While her daughters Judith and Lisa were young, Marilyn chose to be a stay at home mom until both girls were of school age. She re-entered the workforce following her passion as a social worker, which lasted over 60 years. She was fiercely dedicated to her profession and an advocate for children and foster youth.

Marilyn continued to play classical piano throughout the rest of her life, but also loved to play show tunes so the family could sing along. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels, play cards and be with her loving family. She learned to use an iPad at the age of 90 and enjoyed texting family especially using heart emojis. Marilyn will be remembered as a woman of grace and humility, selfless, strong and kind. An exceptional mom, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Marilyn loved unconditionally with all her heart and soul.

Marilyn was the beloved wife of 52 years of the late Saul Wineman. Cherished mother of Judith (Kim Schopmeyer) Wineman and Lisa Friedman. Treasured grandmother of Samuel Cooper, Joshua (Leisha) Friedman, Nicholas (Merissa) Friedman, Jacob Friedman, Daniel (Kaitlyn Hassan) Friedman, and Jesse Friedman. Adored great-grandmother of nine great-grandchildren. Devoted sister of the late Sheldon (the late Inez) Klimist. Also survived by her loving nieces and nephew: Susan, Kyree, Tony (Klimist), Steven (Wineman), Joe Fox, and her caregivers.
